VENNY?

A little help

Questions? Meet answers.

Everything you need to find your next overlap.

How do I play?

Each round shows two categories. Name one thing that fits both. For example, a pelican is a bird and a sports team name.

You get 7 rounds, with 45 seconds per round. Your first accepted answer locks in and ends the round, so aim for something a little unexpected.

How does scoring work?

Rarer answers earn more points. Every answer has a fixed score based on Venny's hand-rated answer lists:

  • Common: 18–45 points
  • Clever: 49–69 points
  • Rare: 72–95 points
  • The Venny: 100 points

There is one Venny answer per round. Find all seven for a perfect 700. Live player percentages don't change your points.

Do wrong guesses cost points?

No. You can keep guessing until you find an accepted answer or time runs out. Send one answer at a time; a comma-separated list won't count.

Running out of time or choosing Done without an accepted answer scores zero for that round.

What does a hint do?

The Hint button, or typing ? into the answer box, reveals a common answer. Playing that answer scores 0 points. You can still think of a different answer for points before the timer ends.

When is there a new puzzle?

A new daily puzzle arrives at midnight in your local time zone. Everyone playing the same calendar date gets the same puzzle.

When the hand-made schedule runs out, an encore puzzle mixes earlier prompts into a new set of seven rounds.

Can I play more than once?

The daily puzzle counts once. After finishing, you can play practice games with randomly selected prompts from past days, when those are available. Practice doesn't affect your daily statistics or the player percentages.

Can I leave and come back?

Your progress saves in this browser. You can resume today's game, but an active round's timer keeps running while you browse another page, switch tabs, or close the site. At midnight in your local time zone, Venny switches to the new daily puzzle. An unfinished older puzzle won't block today's game.

The How to play dialog in the game pauses the timer while you read it. Using another device or clearing your browser's site data won't carry your saved progress over.

What if I make a typo?

Venny accepts many spelling variants, plurals, and small typos. It won't catch every case, so check the spelling and any note under the categories if an answer isn't accepted.

My answer should count. Can I report it?

Yes—use Contact / Suggestions and include the two categories, your answer, and the puzzle date or number. A short explanation helps us review it.

You can also suggest category pairs, report bugs, or tell us what would make the game better.

Why don't I always see player percentages?

A round needs at least 20 player submissions before Venny shows live percentages. Until then, the reveal uses rarity labels. Those percentages are anonymous answer tallies; your score stays fixed.

Do I need an account? Is it free?

Venny is free, with no account, ads, or cookies. We only count visits anonymously. Progress and personal statistics stay in your browser. Read our Privacy Policy for details.
